Snoreeze Census 2001: Snoring puts pressure on British couples

Snoring is causing major rifts between British couples with one in four claiming that it is ruining their sex life according to a poll of 1,000 cohabiting couples released this week (Monday 20th August).

The Snoreeze Census survey reveals that more than half of those asked (57 per cent) blamed their partner’s snoring for rows between them and one in ten couples had even considered splitting up because they could not cope with the noise.

The census, which involved habitual snorers and their partners, was conducted by the manufacturers of best-selling snoring remedy Snoreeze, to assess the scale of the effects snoring has on relationships today.

Denise Knowles from the relationship counselling service Relate, said that snoring issues should be taken very seriously.

“If it gets to the stage when the snorer ignores pleas from their partner to do something about the problem, then it shows a lack of consideration and this will often start to permeate into other areas of the relationship. It’s often that serious and when the divorce comes through snoring is blamed.”

According to the Snoreeze survey, 80 per cent of couples resorted to sleeping separately at times and four out of 10 thought that snoring had adversely affected the quality of their relationship. Long suffering partners likened the noise to a pregnant rhinoceros, an express train, a chain saw and one described it as “hell as I imagine it to be”.

The impact of snoring doesn’t stop behind closed doors either. Sixty four per cent of snorers say they feel tired and unrested every day and partners are getting an even worse deal with 73 per cent claiming to be exhausted in the morning and more than half feeling frequently stressed and emotional through lack of sleep.

“When people are deprived of sleep they suffer physically and emotionally. They can’t think straight or listen to people properly and are less able to deal with problems. This can also lead to the intimate relationship being affected because sex is the last think you want if you’re shattered,” said Denise Knowles.

“If a couple is getting to the stage when they are sleeping in different rooms then it’s time that they start talking to each other very seriously.”

Snoreeze is a natural snoring remedy containing a unique combination of essential oils and vitamins that coat the soft tissues in the throat to help stop the vibrations that cause snoring.

The easy-to-use throat spray has been proven to be 93 per cent effective in reducing snoring noise, according to the partners of habitual snorers. A double-blind placebo-controlled study, found that Snoreeze eliminated snoring altogether in 50 per cent of participants.

Philip Artus, managing director of Passion for Life, manufacturers of Snoreeze, said: “Snoring is often seen as a subject for comedy but these results show that snoring is no laughing matter for those who have to live with it.”

The snoring problem doesn’t stop at the doors of ordinary people. Newly wed Friends star Courtney Cox recently announced that her husband David Arquette snores terribly and Rosanne is reported to make her husband Ben Thomas sleep in another room because of the noise. Female celebrities aren’t exempt either – according to reports from Hollywood insiders, Elizabeth Taylor snores like a champ.

Snoreeze costs £12.95 for 50 nights of peace. Simply spray the back of the throat three times with the fresh tasting formula before going to bed.
