Snoreeze Census 2001: Snoring Blamed for Inefficiency at Work

Snoring is causing major problems for British workers – and businesses – with over a quarter claiming that their work suffers as a result of losing out on a good night’s sleep according to a poll 1,000 cohabiting couples.

Nearly a third (30%) of partners blamed their other half’s snoring for poor performance at work whilst one in four (25%) snorers themselves felt their work was frequently affected.

The census, which involved habitual snorers and their partners, was conducted by the manufacturers of best-selling snoring remedy Snoreeze to assess the impact snoring has on our daily lives.

More than half of the long-suffering partners (54%) said they felt stressed and emotional either every day (21%) or frequently (33%) with 83% claiming to be woken by snoring on a regular basis. Three out of four of the partners said they felt tired and unrested most mornings compared to only 64% of snorers. More than half of all the snorers interviewed said they regularly woke themselves up due to their own high decibel output and nearly all of them (93%) said they were often woken at least once during the night by their partner trying to stop them snoring.

Keith Fraser, principal of the Institute of Stress Management, said: “If you are unable to sleep efficiently and awake refreshed, you will not be in very good shape to perform your day’s activities well. A good night’s sleep is vitally important in terms of improving your resistance to stress. Ideally a person’s sleeping hours should be consecutive and this will be difficult to achieve with a snoring partner.”

The average cost of sick leave for each employee per year is £487.10. This represents an estimated cost of £12 billion to the UK economy.* The most common cause for both manual and non-manual staff was minor illnesses such as colds and flu but stress was seen as the main cause of longer-term absence among non-manual staff.

The Snoreeze Census also revealed that snoring is causing major rifts between couples with one in four claiming that it is ruining their sex lives. More than half blamed their partner’s snoring for rows breaking out and one in ten even admitted they had considered divorce.

Snoreeze is a natural anti-snoring remedy containing a unique combination of essential oils and vitamins that coat the soft tissues in the throat to help stop the vibrations that cause snoring.

The easy-to-use throat spray has been proven to be 93% effective in reducing snoring noise according to the partners of snorers. A double-blind placebo-controlled study found that Snoreeze eliminated snoring altogether in 50 per cent of participants.

Snoreeze costs £12.95 for 50 nights of peace. Simply spray the back of the throat three times with the fresh tasting formula before going to bed. Snoreeze is available from Superdrug, Asda Pharmacies, Lloyd Pharmacies, Holland & Barrett, Moss, GNC, independent pharmacies and health food stores.
