Impact of Snoring on Relationships
Snoring can adversely affect relationships and become the cause of irritability and rows between couples. The Great British Snoring Survey carried out by Snoreeze in 2006 showed that as a result of snoring:
The survey showed that one in 10 people sampled had even considered living separately or splitting up because of snoring.
Snoreeze research in 2007 revealed that couples affected by snoring often staggered their bedtimes to ensure that the non-snorer fell asleep before the snorer. The fact that couples consciously or even subconsciously shifted their bedtimes shows the real impact that snoring has on relationships.
Raising the subject of snoring
It may be hard to have a rational discussion about snoring when you feel exhausted
from a disturbed night's sleep. So it is important that when you raise the subject,
that you reassure your partner that you are not blaming them, that this is a problem
that affects you both, and that together you will find a workable solution.
Difficult subjects are often best brought up with a touch of humour, and snoring is no exception. Starting off the conversation lightly and with a positive tone can encourage your partner to be more receptive to try out different methods to help combat the problem.
Addressing the issue by having an honest conversation about snoring sooner rather than later may make all the difference to the relationship.
